Since the beginning of social distancing, the trips to the salon have been adjusted. These weekly or monthly visits haven’t been possible and we’ve needed to get creative at home. The most common at-home beauty buys and routines so far have been root touch-ups and hair masks. Rather than ordering some hair treatments online, you can give these hair mask recipes a try. They will make your strands more hydrated and soft with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

THE PERFECT GIFT FROM SALTY THREADS

Celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra have used it for years and swear by it. With only plain full-fat yogurt, one egg, and a teaspoon of honey mixed in a bowl you can start to create a very simple, yet effective basic hair mask. If the yogurt has a lot of cultures it can be extremely pH balancing and the honey acts as an antiseptic and has anti-inflammatory properties.

If you are in a much-needed exfoliation of the scalp you can add brown sugar to this basic mix, and will be able to get rid of dead skin cells.  If you need to give your hair a moisturizing boost you can add some coconut oil. If your scalp is inflamed you can add aloe to calm the irritation. After mixing the ingredients according to your needs apply them to the hair, leave it for 30 minutes, rinse and watch your hair shine.

The best way to make that lipstick look perfect is when you moisturize and treat your lips on a weekly basis. Hydration is key when you want to achieve that perfect look, but scrubbing shouldn't fall short. One of the most basic and effective at-home lip scrubs is a mixture of equal parts of honey, coconut oil, and organic raw sugar. By combining these ingredients you can achieve smooth lips every time.

Coconut oil has insane moisturizing properties, omega fatty acids, and anti-bacterial benefits. You can also add honey to combat dry chapped lips and to give a soothing feeling. It’s important that when using this treatment you don’t rub it too hard on the lips, as it can hurt your lips. Bonus points for this one are that it is completely safe to use and if some of it gets into your mouth you will enjoy it.

You can also take a DIY approach to your face with some simple ingredients that will make your face glow and feel refreshed. There are tons of options when making your own facemasks, and all are going to depend on your skin type and what you are trying to achieve. We choose treatments for the most common skin types so you can choose the one that best suits you.

Give It a Glow

For dry skin, you can start with plain full-fat Greek yogurt, add olive oil and half of mashed avocado. Mix until smooth then apply. Relax for 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

As you can see most of the ingredients you already have in your kitchen. Make sure to patch test them on the side of your neck before to make sure you don’t react to the mixture. Try these masks once a week and make sure to be relaxed and leave any distractions aside so you can enjoy the time with yourself. Also, drink plenty of water on a daily basis. Hydration is key to any beauty routine.

These treatments are inexpensive and with just a couple of minutes and some ingredients that you already have, you can create your own at-some-spa. During these difficult times, it’s important that we take care of our bodies and our minds so we can be ready for when all of this is over and we can continue with our previous routines and keep glowing.
